I’m Dr. Kimberly A. Matthews, a lifelong educator, historian, and storyteller from Henrico County, Virginia. Over the years, I’ve learned that impact isn’t always about being the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes, it’s about being the quiet presence—the secret ingredient—that listens, reflects, and steps forward with care and purpose when it’s needed most.

I hold a BA in Communication from George Mason University, along with an MEd and PhD in Education from VCU. My work centers on illuminating Richmond’s African American history and inspiring young readers through a children’s book series about friendship and belonging. I believe in the power of stories to educate, heal, and connect.

We all bring unique flavors to the world—some bold, some subtle—and I’ve come to appreciate the quiet moments where true value reveals itself. The thrill of something new, the comfort of belonging, and the joy of being seen for who you truly are—those are the experiences I cherish and strive to create for others.

Outside of my work, I enjoy science fiction, classic films (especially Star Wars), yoga, winter walks, and the joy of being an aunt to six and great aunt to one.
